101 Things To Do In Memphis #17: Feed Memphis 10k

by Melissa Thompson

Join us at the Pink Palace in Memphis, TN for a beautiful run to benefit Feed Memphis.

Roughly one in four children in Memphis and Shelby County go to bed hungry. Feed Memphis is an initiative of the Memphis Dream Center to address this significant and heartbreaking need. Each week, volunteers assemble individual red bags filled with food for over 3200 children struggling with food insecurity. These red bags of hope are distributed at 6 Title 1 Shelby County Schools in North Memphis and are often the only food resources these precious children will have until school begins again on Monday.

Running in the Feed Memphis 5k/10k is a great way to increase awareness and meet the needs of children facing the challenges and effects of poverty. All proceeds go directly to the acquisition and distribution of food for children in Memphis.

101 Things To Do In Memphis #38: St Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend

by Melissa Thompson

Make lasting memories with friends and family by running (or walking) and helping St. Jude provide the resources needed to help kids with cancer and other deadly diseases and their families continue to build their own lasting memories. Spots are still available for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on December 3rd, 2016.

The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is more than just a race. It’s an experience that lasts the whole weekend. Come to run but stay for the fun, music and all that Memphis has to offer! Kick off the weekend festivities at the Expo where you can browse nearly 100 exhibitors for the latest in race merchandise, racing events and more.

Looking to participate in the race? Run through a piece of American history. Near mile 5, the course passes through the St. Jude campus where patients, their families and other onlookers gather to cheer. Runners will also pass through Overton Park, Overton Square, scenic neighborhoods and several Memphis historic areas before finishing in front of a crowd in AutoZone Park.

There are several great race options to fit your pace:
Marathon $140
Half Marathon SOLD OUT
10K SOLD OUT
5K $40
Kids Marathon $15/person

Looking for other ways to get involved? Get on the good foot — before, during or after the race. There are a variety of ways to volunteer and there’s more than one way to give, consider becoming a sponsor!

Through the generous support of fundraisers and their donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food—because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Please join this great cause and help make a difference in the life of a sick child and their family!

Learn more about the event details and activities by visiting the website.

Contact St. Jude at [email protected] or call (800) 565-5112 with any questions.
