Things To Do In Memphis: Tequila Festival

by Melissa Thompson

Join in for the Memphis Flyer's third annual Memphis Tequila Festival as they party it up in Overton Square with over 30 different types of tequila! This festival is guaranteed to get you in the *spirit* of the season with dance music from our local DJs, spooky face painting, a costume photo booth and more!

Hungry? Food will be available for purchase from local food vendors. Each ticket purchaser will be able to choose 15 tequilas to sample from, so choose wisely! Still thirsty? We will have a cash bar with beer, wine and mixed drinks available for purchase.

Proceeds benefit Volunteer Memphis, so every sip counts!

We encourage everyone to designate a driver or take a rideshare to this event. This event is rain or shine and very strictly 21+. Bonus points if you come in costume!

101 Things To Do In Memphis #52: MLK Days of Service

by Melissa Thompson

During MLK Day weekend, honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy by volunteering for various service projects across the Mid-South.

Volunteer Memphis and Leadership Memphis are partnering with several nonprofit and community organizations to host MLK Days of Service January 18 – 21. For those four days, there will be a range of service projects running simultaneously in all ten Mid-South counties. There are plenty of options both indoors or outdoors, and volunteers can participate in everything from beautification and cleanups to reading to children, letter writing, organizing donations for food drives and other fundraising event support, and more.

Each day has a theme:

FRIDAY, JAN. 18 – YOUTH & EDUCATION

Read to a classroom, host a field day, work in an afterschool program, or contact Volunteer Memphis about a customized experience.

SATURDAY, JAN. 19 – FAMILY & FRIENDS

Special projects will be available for volunteers of all ages.

SUNDAY, JAN. 20 – SERVICE SUNDAY

Work with your church or local community centers to serve the needs of others on Sunday. Volunteer Memphis is working with faith-based institutions to create volunteer opportunities during the afternoon following worship services.

MONDAY, JAN. 21 – COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

Volunteer Memphis is partnering with Clean Memphis and Memphis City Beautiful to host a citywide cleanup project.

Make plans to volunteer with your friends, family, or coworkers. Take a look at the projects and sign up for specific opportunities on the Volunteer United partner page. There will be a kickoff party on Thursday, January 17th at 5:00 pm at the Benjamin Hooks Central Library.

MLK Days of Service Donation Drive
