101 Things To Do In Memphis #38: Memphis Guide to Halloween 2018

Even though Halloween is on October 31, the entire month is packed full of fun ways to celebrate. Check out our list of how you can enjoy the ghostly holiday and get in the spooky spirit.

On Friday and Saturday nights in October, actors clad as ghostly apparitions haunt the herbaceous hallways of a spooky tractor ride. A giant jumping pillow launches kids skyward and gently cushions their falls, and a corn cannon fires ears of corn at targets up to 100 yards away. Anyone who hits a target wins a prize from one of the maze’s sponsors and the right to eat nothing but popcorn balls until Thanksgiving. And as always, the haunted Corn Maze is guaranteed to frighten Memphians of all ages.

This Halloween season, dare to to enter Memphis’ largest indoor Haunted House. Featuring multiple areas to explore, tickets start at $22 with VIP tickets and group rates available.

Monster Market is an annual freaky pop-up shop curated by Holtermonster, full of creepy housewares, freaky apparel, dark home decor, weird art and odd gifts, made by independent makers, artists, and small brands. The shop is only open for October and pops up in a different location every year! Crosstown Concourse is their 2018 home. Come visit the shop before it disappears (not appropriate for children)!

  • Haunted Pub Crawl
    Friday, October 5 – 27th on Fridays and Saturdays – 7:30 pm to 10 pm – $20 per person (21+ only)

Take a tour this Halloween season of some of the most haunted places in Memphis with an actual paranormal investigator. Drinks available for purchase.

Ever wanted to shoot some zombies? Now is your chance! Head out to Jones Orchard on Fridays and Saturdays to take your best shot against the undead. Featuring ghoulish scenery, fully loaded paintball guns, and 5-ton army trucks, you’ll not want to miss it!

It’s the return of The Rocky Horror Drag Show, brought to you by the Zebra Lounge and Goldie Dee & Friends to benefit Friends For Life. Come in costume to win special prizes and sign up for the Time Warp competition before the show begins. Your optional $20 donation to Friends For Life gives you a chance to win raffle baskets throughout the night. Goldie takes the stage at 9:00 pm to thrill, chill and fulfill you.

It’s Frankenstein’s 200th birthday! Help the Pink Palace celebrate by exploring the fact and fiction behind Mary Shelly’s novel with intriguing learning activities.

New Moon Theatre Company presents a gory rock musical based on The Lizzie Borden Story. On a sweltering summer morning in 1892, in a small New England city, a prominent businessman and his wife were brutally axed to death in their home. Their daughter Lizzie Borden was the prime suspect. Lizzie’s trial was a coast-to-coast media sensation, and her story has become an American legend.  Lizzie is American mythology set to a blistering rock score. Lizzie is a new American musical with a sound owing less to Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber than to Bikini Kill, the Runaways, and Heart.

Calling all ghouls and goblins, Eric C and Carla are back at Ghost River to shamelessly plug their paranormal podcast and bring you a very SPOOKTACULAR Drink-N-Draw gameshow! Plenty of spooky games and prizes. Costumes? Wear em if you got em, they’ll give out prizes for best and worst dressed.

Grab some family or a friend and pump up your holiday cheer with a BOOtiful Pumpkin Decorating Party at Muddy’s for free! Muddy’s will provide all the supplies you need to spruce up that pumpkin. All you need to do is BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin). This event will be held on the Midtown Muddy’s Lawn. All ages welcome!

Enjoy spooky treats, play games to win prizes, stop by booths to shop vintage Halloween goodies, hand-made items & Art. Shop oddities and curiosities items for the strange and weird.

Join Shelby Farms Park on the Great Lawn for two spook-tacular scary movies: Casper (6:15pm) and The Shining (8pm). Food trucks will be available and parking is $10 per car.

Come dressed as your favorite character from “The Office.” Since it is October, each location is going to have a costume contest too. Both nights will feature a fresh edition of trivia about “The Office” Halloween episodes. Feel free to attend one or both. Just be sure to RSVP!

Invite your friends to play “Friends” Trivia (The One With Questions About the Halloween Episode and Other Spooky Stuff From Friends). Since it is October, Railgarten is going to have a “Friends” costume contest during trivia.

Come dressed as your favorite character from the Disney Halloween classic. Since it is October, each location is going to have a “Hocus Pocus” costume contest too. Both nights will feature a fresh edition of trivia about “Hocus Pocus.” Feel free to attend one or both. Just be sure to RSVP!

Think ghost stories are just for kids? Think again. Historical Haunt’s haunted pub crawl is just for adults! Join their knowledgeable and entertaining guides on an informative and humorous walking tour of Downtown Memphis restaurants, bars and taverns. You’ll enjoy the macabre history and spirits with the spirits, as you explore two types of Memphis traditions: ghost stories and alcohol.

A Halloween season inspired collection of short plays written by local writers. Explore Science Fiction in theatrical form! Travel in space and time to meet aliens from another dimension, sentient robots and mysterious creatures. Discover strange worlds, future technologies and alternate realities that defy comprehension!

Parents, do you want a kid free night? Send the kids to Paint a Piece to celebrate fall and create some spooky and festive pieces. Parents enjoy your own free time or stay and paint something of your own. Kids will paint an a spider canvas and complete a sugar skull plate. They will give step by step instructions, eat East of Chicago Pizza, and have tons of fun!

Come to Singleton’s popular Halloween Carnival which will take place in the Gymnasium. There will be games, contests, candy and fun. Will your costume win a prize in the Costume Contest? Judging will be divided in the following age categories: 0–3, 4–6, 7–9, 10–12, 13 and over. Admission is $1.00 for adults; children 12 and under are free.

  • Zoo Boo
    October 19-21 and 26-28, and 31st, 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm – $10 to $12 for members and $13 to $15 for non-members

Join the Memphis Zoo for their annual ZOO BOO celebration. Mazes, hayrides, candy stations and more will be ready for guests to enjoy along with the exhibits!

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present a Memphis Barbecue Network sanctioned contest that will feature live entertainment, activities for families and children, a variety of vendors and concessions, and much more. Over $11,000 in prize money and trophies will be awarded to winners in three MBN categories (Whole Hog, Pulled Pork, and Ribs) and ten ‘Anything But’ categories.

Celebrate the season at CMOM’s (not-so-scary) Halloween Spooktacular complete with all the fall festival trimmings: pumpkin decorating, Halloween costume parade, glow party, Magic show with Mr. Nick, Spooky Science experiments, and Treats-not-Tricks goodies.

Every week, since the summer of 2012, UBFM has sought out and fed the homeless, via bicycle, on the streets of Memphis, through every type of weather, to demonstrate to them that they are loved and not forgotten. Help them keep going by attending our 6th Anniversary Fundraiser Bash/Silent Auction/Costume Party, etc. coming up on Saturday, October 20th, to be held in one of the coolest warehouses in Memphis, starting at 6 pm!

See ‘The Addams Family’ on Adams Avenue on the lawn of the Mallory-Neely House! Open house starts at 5:30 before the movie at 7 pm. Bring your chairs and blankets.

Join the Mystic Krewe of Pegasus for their forth annual Halloween Party – Halloween at Hogwarts. Costume contest at midnight. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and admission includes food and an open bar. Entertainment will be surprise guests and performances throughout the night. All proceeds will benefit their 2018-19 charity, TEP Tennessee Equality Project Foundation and Special Olympics of Greater Memphis

Come and bring your kids for a Trunk or Treat at the marketplace! They will also have a make and take paint pumpkin or ghost in the craft room which will have a small fee ($12) but the trunk or treating will be free!

This Halloween weekend, come get spooky at Loflin Yard at an all-day event with food, drinks, and games. They’ll have a live DJ in the Coach House, pumpkin decorating in the Yard, and 3 costume contests.

Crosstown Brewing is hosting a murder Mystery Dinner Party and you’re all invited! Sign-up now to be part of a night of mystery and fun. There are two options for tickets and you will be assigned a character based on your ticket purchase. The cost includes a catered dinner from Next Door, dessert and two full pours of beer. This is an interactive event and they highly encourage everyone that participates to come dressed in costume.

Party all night at The Beach House this Halloween. They’ll have food and drink specials available until the wee hours.

As Night falls and Darkness descends you are cordially invited to Haunted Happenings at the Woodruff-Fontaine Mansion! Allow gypsies to foretell your future and partake in a live paranormal investigation. Live music, food trucks and dancing await, so don your costume if you wish and enjoy an evening of Victorian themed Halloween festivities.

Head to Growlers for Halloween movie trivia, live music, and happy hour in celebration of the new Halloween film releasing this October!

For this holiday edition of PubSing, The Casual Pint will throw in some spooky tunes for all to sing and also welcomes you to arrive IN COSTUME should you so desire! There will be a prize for the costume contest winner.

Last year, the 3rd annual monster mash was one of the hottest in Memphis. This year will be even better! Benefiting, party-goers will enjoy an open bar, open dance floor, a DJ, and finger foods. This is a costume party like no other and first place this year will take home $200 with the runner up will receiving $75. The crowd will be the judge at the stroke of midnight so be sure to come prepared!

Gates open 5pm. Trick or Treat through My Big Backyard 5pm to 7pm. Movie begins at 7:15. Come in your creepiest costume, grab a blanket or chair, and come to the Live Garden for a double feature of fun. Little ghosts and goblins will scream with delight at the treat stations and activities before Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown shows at 7:15 pm. At 7:45pm, go on a journey through the woods with Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. Kettle corn, food truck concessions, photo ops, and adult spirits will be available throughout the evening. The Annual Spaceface Halloween Party is approaching. Spaceface will have all their classics on Saturday October 27th at Railgarten featuring: a costume contest with prizes, local art vendors, local food, libations, and more for all of you party animals.

Booogey the night away at South Memphis Productions with drink and food specials, a costume party, and a live DJ!

Spooky Nights is a spook-tacular event that supports Shelby Farms Park Conservancy! 



Spooky Nights is open rain or shine unless otherwise noted for inclement weather. Inclement weather closing will be announced on Facebook, Twitter and on this web page.


The Pine Forest of Shelby Farms Park is transformed into the only haunted trail in Memphis! Are you brave enough to handle over 1 mile of scares? 


Experience a new attraction at Spooky Nights that is sure to scare up some fun! Climb aboard a trailer that is specially outfitted with paintball equipment and try to conquer zombies! Don't worry--the zombies aren't coordinated enough to use the paintball equipment, so you'll have the upper hand! For more information, click here.


Take a family-friendly hayride through the Park, but be on the lookout for the legend himself!


Don't miss this new addition to Spooky Nights! Knock down zombies and monsters as you roll down the haunted hill in the glowing phantom zorb.

Little ghosts and goblins are invited to go trick or treating in safe environment during Spooky Nights. Treats will be provided Memphis + Shelby County EMS. Costumes are highly encouraged!
