Things To Do In Memphis: Elvis Week

by Melissa Thompson

Elvis Week is an annual week-long celebration dedicated to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll™.

Elvis Presley’s legacy is alive and well at Graceland in Memphis, where every August thousands of fans from around the world come together to celebrate his life, music and movies. The week-long event respectfully pays tribute to all things Elvis in a fun and exciting environment that honors one of the biggest icons in music history.

Fans will have a chance to immerse themselves in all things Elvis with live music performances, panel discussions with those who knew and worked with Elvis, along with an auction with one-of-a kind memorabilia. The center of activity will be the Graceland Soundstage at Elvis Presley’s Memphis entertainment complex. While not attending one of the events, relax in style when you book a room at the luxurious AAA Four Diamond Guest House at Graceland resort hotel.

One of the most anticipated events held each year is the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, where more than 20 of the best tribute artists from around the world compete for the most prestigious title, as one winner is crowned the best of the best. Tickets often sell out to this event, so be sure to plan ahead and get yours in advance.

While panels, live music and a variety of fun events fill up the schedule, the annual candlelight vigil at Graceland is a solemn and special event that takes place every year on the evening of the of August 15th. Fans patiently wait their turn to pass through the famed gates of Graceland and walk up to the Meditation Garden with candle in hand to pay their respects to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. This awe-inspiring sea of candles is a must-see for fans and anyone traveling to Memphis for Elvis Week.

Tours of the Graceland Mansion and the new Elvis Presley’s Memphis, showcasing the car museum, special exhibits and airplanes, are always available. Take your camera because photo opportunities and memories will be plenty.
