101 Things To Do In Memphis #46: Germantown Holiday Parade

by Melissa Thompson

Lining the City streets, residents watch as decorated floats, horses, school groups, clubs and booming marching bands wave to neighbors as they slowly make their way along the parade route. Be sure to stay until the end to get a glimpse of Santa aboard a Germantown fire truck.

In support of the U.S. Marine Reserves Toys-for-Tots organization, uniformed Marines will be a part of the parade in their big truck to collect new, unwrapped toys for children. Let's spread the holiday cheer by filling up their truck!

The parade begins at the corner of Kimbrough Road and Farmington Boulevard, proceeds west on Farmington Boulevard to Exeter Road and ends at Germantown Athletic Club

Christmas was Elvis’ favorite time of year. Elvis and his family would plan for Christmas with great excitement. Christmas meant home and family and fun.
During the holiday season, the tour of Graceland is extra special with the interior and exterior of the mansion decorated for the holidays. See traditional lights and decorations including hundreds of blue lights along the driveway, a life-size Nativity scene, Santa and his sleigh and much more originally displayed by Elvis. The interior of Graceland mansion is decked out in Christmas decor and includes his traditional red velvet drapes and Presley family Christmas artifacts on display.

Running since November 20 until January 8th, there is still time to join in on the fun. Visit https://www.graceland.com/holidays/ for more info.

The forecast for this weekend calls for snow! The same for next weekend and the one after that! If you are looking for a fun way to celebrate the holidays, grab the family and head over to the Memphis Botanic Gardens for “Snowy Nights in My Big Backyard”!

Themed lighting along Playhouse Lane and a musical light show throughout set the stage as you stroll in through "falling snow", play in the giant Snow Globe, decorate icicle ornaments, search for hidden snowflakes in the Snowflake Forest, play Mitten Toss and Tic-Tac-Snow, and plug your own design into the Giant Light Bright!

Worried about a little chill in the air…you’ll keep toasty warm around campfire pits on the patio, also perfect for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.

MBG members $8
Non-members $10
Children under 2 are free
